To ensure good health, longevity, and growth of your plants, you have to feed them regularly. Plant food such as fertilizers, however, can do more harm than good if used incorrectly. Here are some pointers on plant fertilizers:

Basics on Plant Fertilizers

  • You don’t have to worry about fertilizing that new plant you just bought from the nursery or florist shop. Newly purchased plants are usually well-fertilized, and hardly need any fertilizer for at least a few weeks.
  • Water-soluble fertilizers formulated for houseplants are easy to use, and available at most garden shops. Always follow directions carefully, as different brands carry different formulations.
  • Whether the fertilizer is organic or not, using either or a combination of both supply the required nutrients.
  • You can consider buying time-controlled fertilizers that slowly release nutrients over time. These require less frequent application than liquid fertilizers.
