To ensure good health, longevity, and growth of your plants, you have to feed them regularly. Plant food such as fertilizers, however, can do more harm than good if used incorrectly. Here are some pointers on feeding your plants properly:

How To Use Plant Fertilizer Correctly

  • Once a month fertilizing is usually adequate for most houseplants producing new growth or flowers.
  • Never use fertilizer on sick plants faltering in poor conditions. If the cause of bad growth is due to improper lighting or water, adding fertilizer only adds to the injury.
  • Nurse your plant back to health first before applying fertilizer on slightly dry soil.
  • Signs to watch out for when your plants need fertilizer are leaf-dropping, overall yellow-green color, or weak growth.
  • Never add more than is necessary. If you apply fertilizer over zealously, the plant’s roots can get damaged and burned.
