Are You Overwatering or Underwatering Your Plants?

If you have just bought a potted plant, care is needed to help it adapt to its new home. A common mistake people make is in gauging how much and often plants need to be watered.

Basic Plant Watering Tips

  • Too much water leads to poor plant growth or maybe premature death.
  • Too little water (although it rarely the case, it still happens if prolong neglect), and the roots may die.
  • Generally, flowering plants require more water than foliage plants.
  • Water plants only necessary.
  • Do not allow plants to stand and stagnate in water over long periods.
  • Gauge the moisture content of the soil by its color and feel.
  • Dry soil is lighter. If the soil is too dry, it may crack and pull away from the pot.
  • Over-moist soil feels sticky, and invites rotting plants and disease.
