Besides the kitchen, the bathroom is another area where accidents are prone to occur. Keep your bathrooms safe with these tips:

Always keep the floor dry. Place non-skid slip-mats next to bathtubs and showers. The curb separating the bathroom and the bedroom or kitchen should also be kept dry at all times.

If you have shower curtains, make sure that the bar holding it is firmly installed. Most people tend to grab the nearest thing to stop a fall, and in this case a secured shower curtain may help prevent a slip.

If you prefer shower scenes, install shatterproof glass.

Do not leave hair dryers or shavers plugged in if they are not in use.

Keep the bathroom floor free from towels, clothes, and extension cords as these are also potential safety hazards.

Avoid having glass containers like toothbrush holders or perfume bottles in the bathroom.

Make sure the bathroom is adequately lighted.

Bathroom Safety For Children

If you have young children in the house, place a step stool near the bathtub to help them climb in and out, and never leave your child unattended.

Have lower drawers for storage of their towels and toys, and keep edges of counter-tops rounded. Also exercise caution when you dispose razors, medications, and old cleaning supplies in the trash bin.

All home kitchens should have a fire extinguisher whether it is an auto fire extinguisher or a kidde kitchen fire extinguisher. Here are some basic tips on kitchen fire safety:

Prevent Kitchen Fire:

Never step away when something is cooking on the stove. Most fires in the kitchen are caused by unattended cooking.

Pot holders, towels, and other combustibles should be placed away from the cooking areas.

Clean your oven and hob regularly. Built-up grease and food remnants catch fire easily.

Avoid wearing loose clothing when you are cooking.

Contain Kitchen Fire:

To extinguish a small pan fire, slide a lid over the pan and turn off the burner. Do not move the pan until the fire is completely extinguished and the pan is cool.

For fire contained in a pan, you can also use baking soda. Sprinkle a generous amount on your palm and toss it on the fire. Never use water on a grease fire as water will cause the fire to spread and make it worse.

If the fire is large or appears to be growing, do not attempt to extinguish it. Quickly leave your home and call the fire station.

It is not surprising to know that house break-ins are on the rise again. This usually happens when economy is fluctuating at a downward scale or at a stand-still resulting many people losing their jobs at lightning speed. This is not to say that the rate of house break-ins accelerated due to poor economy but if we look at statistic it clearly shows a correlation between them. When there isn’t enough job available, the “only” way to put food on the table is to steal or scam for that matter.

Do not create opportunity for burglars to strike your home. Be proactive and take preventive home security measures to safe guard your home, valuable assets, and most importantly lives.

Tips on How To Prevent House Break-ins

Dos

Lock All Doors: If you like to keep your front door open, do lock the gate even if you are at home. Burglars can slip in unaware while you are busy preparing a meal in the kitchen or taking an afternoon nap. Lock up every time you go out, even if it is only for a few minutes.

On Vacation: When you go on vacation, either have your neighbor pick up your newspapers or stop the subscription which is the better option.

Alert Police: Report suspicious characters to the police. Some burglars check out an area before they strike and seeing policemen in the vicinity may deter them from committing a crime.

Home Security System: Consider installing an electronic home security system. Talk to neighbors and friends who have decided on which one to install, learn to use it properly. Seeing false alarms is annoying and people will stop pay attention after a while.

Don’ts

Peepholes: Peepholes are useful for identifying visitors before opening the door. Do not open the door if you can’t see who it is.

Post It Notes: Do not leave notes at the door for family members or the repair man. This only signals to burglars that the house is empty.

Spare Keys: Do not leave your spare keys in place like mailboxes, under door mats, or under potted plants.

Key Chains: Do not place identification tags (i.e. home address or phone number) on your keys or key chains. It will be a great help for burglars if you lose your keys.

Asbestos is a term used to refer to a natural mineral that was largely used in the past as a building material due to its heat-resistance properties. There are different kinds of asbestos and the most common is the serpentine group which consists of chrysotile, also known as white asbestos. The other type of asbestos is the amphiboles group which comprises crocidolite, also called blue asbestos and amosite, known as brown asbestos.

Asbestos And Health Issues

Many years passed before asbestos was discovered to be the cause of some serious and deadly diseases such as mesothelioma, asbestosis, and lung cancer. The risk posed by asbestos materials cannot be denied but it is important to highlight that asbestos become hazardous when the fibers develop into airborne and, thus, are likely to be inhaled or ingested. Consequently, asbestos materials are not a menace if they are in good condition.

Apart from the industrial uses of asbestos, this material has been widely used in house building and other appliances which now can pose a hazard to people living there or handling those devices. The reason for asbestos extensive use was the material ability to tolerate high temperatures. This material offered protection against cold, fire, noise, dust, corrosion, etc.

Health consequences associated with asbestos material were not discovered but after the damage was done. Asbestos-related diseases have a latency period of more than 40 years, in most cases, and this is the reason why the risks were known after asbestos material had been widely used.
